This establishment is not equipped to be open during the winter months and room rates should reflect that. I messaged the housekeeper to see if we could take our breakfast to go as I could not sit in the freezing dining area or cabin another time! I also had my dog with me, who was also freezing and could not wait in the cold room while we ate. We ran out of logs in the early morning and could not find any outside of our cabin. Every two hours of the night my boyfriend had to get up and tend to the fire because without it the room would be the same temperature as outside. We had to ask for fire starters twice because the logs given were huge and were not gonna light right away. We went back to our room (which was equally as cold) to start a fire. After dinner, I was frozen from the hips down. Seeing as how dinner was 65$ per person, you would think the atmosphere would be fitting. This was even after a couple behind us got up, grabbed their bags and refused to stay because of the temperature inside. The dining area was freezing and staff made no comment or apology to address the situation. I booked a room as a relaxing Christmas present for my boyfriend. But more needs to be done to justify a nearly $300/night luxury room rate. I know they're working hard to improve the condition of the house, so perhaps these things will get better. Though there were many apologies for the kitchen, it would have been nice for someone to at least ask us how we found our stay (we were told to check ourselves out) and show some effort to make up for it. ![]() In our rooms, the lady who checked us in noticed the fallen blinds but tried to dismiss it saying that it was in a hallway just outside the bedroom, but since was no door to the hallway it was a direct line of sight to the bed. #Inn and tavern at meander freeThe guest next to us had informed the B&B in advance that she was gluten intolerant but had to remind them and even then only received plain gluten free bread, more than halfway through the meal. During breakfast, it seemed like most of the staff were focused on fixing the kitchen (understandable) but as a result seemed distracted. ![]() For dinner we had made a reservation in advance as the website recommends, but no one called to let us know the restaurant had been closed - we found out when we arrived. This was not helped by the lack of personal attention given to the guests. I had no hot water during my bath - slightly warm was the best I could get. ![]() In our room, one of the blinds had fallen off from a window that was diagonally facing the bedroom and wasn't repaired before our stay, so we had an uncovered window facing our bed. This was disappointing because the personalized "breakfast" in a "bed and breakfast" is what most people look forward to. For breakfast, we were served what felt like reheated frozen sausages and pancakes without butter on disposable plates. During our stay, there was a repair being done in the kitchen so they had to close it for dinner. However, the house is old and this impacts the experience. Everyone who interacted with us was friendly. We enjoyed the spacious well-furnished suites, historic feel of the house, and beautiful grounds. ![]()
